The World Wide Web (WWW) has certain terms associated with its use. Below are some of the basic terms you should be familiar with when using the World Wide Web.Elements of the Web
Browser - Software program enables users to read information found on the World Wide Web
URL - (Uniform Resource Locator) - A URL is the address of a web page on the World Wide Web. For instance, http://www.umd.edu is the URL for the university.
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) - This language is used to write pages for the Internet. It enables the text to include codes that permit hypertext links and formatting.
Hypertext - A system of writing and displaying text that enables the text to be linked in other text, graphics, or documents on the Internet. The purpose of hypertext is to group related information.
Pages - Pages are information sources of the World Wide Web. They combine text, pictures, audio clips, video clips, animation, and other objects. They are connected around the globe and form the World Wide Web.
Links - Links are hypertext connections that can take you to another location (web page) on the Internet. Links appear on the screen as highlighted text or as graphics. To follow a link, click the text or graphic with your mouse.
